What to Do About Dry Skin? Jojoba Oil to the Rescue for Skin and Hair
Maybe (like me once) the thought of putting oil on your face makes you picture greasy skin and clogged pores. BUT jojoba oil isn’t really an oil at all! It’s a liquid wax that is almost identical in composition to our skin’s natural sebum. That’s exactly why our skin loves it so much!
How to use jojoba oil to get the most out of it
- On your face: warm a few drops between your palms and massage into damp skin (ideally after a shower or a floral water). The oil locks moisture into the skin.
- On your hair: massage the oil into your scalp and ends. Wrap your hair in a towel for 10 minutes, then wash it out with shampoo. Your hair will be shiny and strong.
- On your beard: gentlemen, 2–3 drops in your palms massaged into your beard is all it takes. It will be soft and shiny, and the skin underneath will stop itching.
Frequently asked questions about jojoba oil
Does jojoba oil clog pores? Quite the opposite! Jojoba is non-comedogenic (rating 2), which means it doesn’t clog pores. It even “tricks” the skin – the skin thinks it has enough sebum and stops overproducing it. That’s why jojoba also works well for acne-prone skin.
Can I use jojoba oil instead of a night cream? Yes. Jojoba is a great “serum” that you can use on its own or add to your favourite cream. Just don’t forget the damp-skin rule.
Is jojoba oil suitable for sensitive children’s skin? Absolutely. Our jojoba is organic, with no fragrance or chemicals. It’s one of the gentlest oils, suitable for dry patches on babies or for soothing skin after sunbathing.
Why doesn’t jojoba oil go off as quickly as other oils? Because chemically it’s a wax. It is extremely stable and naturally resistant to oxidation. Unlike rosehip or evening primrose oil, it won’t go rancid easily.
Can I use it to remove eye make-up? Yes, and it feels very luxurious. Put a few drops on a damp cotton pad – jojoba easily dissolves even mascara while nourishing the delicate skin around your eyes.
Can I use jojoba oil if I have eczema or psoriasis?
Absolutely. Jojoba oil is a blessing for sensitive and eczema-prone skin for two reasons. First, it has natural anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe itching and redness. Second, thanks to its structure (a liquid wax), it forms a gentle protective barrier on the skin that keeps out irritants from the environment while still letting the skin breathe. It’s also excellent for small babies’ dry patches or cradle cap.
Jojoba oil makes my life so much simpler. One little bottle that sorts out dry skin after the pool, flyaway hair and the wrinkles around my eyes. And I’m not afraid to use it even on the youngest children. I carry it in my backpack wherever I go. Give it a try too!
