Dry Skin? Jojoba Oil to the Rescue for Your Face and Hair
Maybe you (like me, once upon a time) picture greasy skin and clogged pores when you think about putting oil on your face. BUT: jojoba oil isn't actually an oil at all! It's a liquid wax whose composition is almost identical to our skin's natural sebum. That's exactly why our skin loves it so much!
How to use jojoba oil to get the most out of it
-
On your face: Warm a few drops between your palms and massage them into damp skin (ideally after a shower or a spritz of floral water). The oil locks the moisture into your skin.
-
On your hair: Massage the oil into your scalp and ends. Wrap your hair in a towel for 10 minutes, then wash with shampoo. Your hair will be shiny and strong.
-
On your beard: Gentlemen, just 2–3 drops in your palms massaged into your beard. It will be soft and shiny, and the skin underneath will stop itching.
Frequently asked questions about jojoba oil
Does jojoba oil clog pores? Quite the opposite! Jojoba is non-comedogenic (rating 2), which means it doesn't clog pores. It even "tricks" the skin – your skin thinks it has enough sebum and stops overproducing it. That's why jojoba is great for acne-prone skin too.
Can I use jojoba oil instead of a night cream? Yes. Jojoba makes a great "serum" that you can use on its own or add to your favourite cream. Just don't forget the damp-skin rule.
Is jojoba oil suitable for sensitive children's skin? Absolutely. Our jojoba is organic, with no fragrances or chemicals. It's one of the gentlest oils, suitable for dry patches on babies or for soothing skin after sunbathing.
Why doesn't jojoba oil go off as quickly as other oils? Because chemically it's a wax. It's extremely stable and naturally resistant to oxidation. Unlike rosehip or evening primrose oil, it won't go rancid easily.
Can I use it to remove eye make-up? Yes, and it's a really luxurious experience. Put a few drops on a damp cotton pad – jojoba dissolves even mascara with ease while nourishing the delicate skin around your eyes.
Can I use jojoba oil if I have eczema or psoriasis?
Absolutely, yes. Jojoba oil is a blessing for sensitive and eczema-prone skin for two reasons. First, it has natural anti-inflammatory properties that help calm itching and redness. Second, thanks to its structure (a liquid wax), it forms a gentle protective barrier on the skin that keeps irritants out while still letting your skin breathe. It's also excellent for little babies, on dry patches or cradle cap.
Jojoba oil makes my life so much easier. One little bottle that takes care of dry skin after the pool, frizzy hair and the fine lines around my eyes. And I'm not afraid to use it on even the youngest children. It comes with me in my backpack wherever I go :) Give it a try!
